Van de Ven Double Halts Everton's Run at New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at both ends of the field

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had scored only a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.
