Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
